Behaviorism in the Classroom

Behaviorist learning theory has become discussed for several years. Although it is definitely an older learning theory, this still works extremely well in the classroom today. There are instructional strategies that incorporate behaviorism. Teaching mathematics at the supplementary level and having to prepare students for state standardised test, I can appreciate a lot of the ideas that behaviorist learning theory provides. Also, how technology may help enhance many of these ideas in their classroom.

There are plenty of articles that explain about behaviorism. Two articles that I have recently read are Behaviorism: Coming from Emerging Points of views on Learning, Teaching and Technology simply by Melissa Standridge and The Behaviorist Orientation to Learning simply by M. T. Smith. Behaviorism is the concept that humans study from activity, replication, and encouragement (Smith, 1999). These 3 ideas had been involved in instructing since I was in elementary school. The idea that teachers create lessons that cause students for taking an active function in their learning has always been regarded as good teaching. Also, it is important that students understand simple ideas that are learned by doing all the time. For example , punctuational, learning names of states, and copie tables are generally things that we get learned simply by repeating details. Finally, positive reinforcement assists the students determine what behaviors work in the classroom of course, if the work they can be doing is proper and exact. Behaviorists think that although actions are learned that it may also be unlearned (Standridge, 2002). Reinforcement, both equally negative and positive, can assist unlearn unacceptable behavior and replace it with acceptable behavior.

Two instructional tactics that use the ideas by behaviorism happen to be homework and practice, and reinforcing hard work. Both of these strategies are defined in the book Applying Technology with Classroom Instructions that...
